In 1927, just 24 months before what was to be known as “The Great Depression”, Industrial Filter & Pump Mfg. Co. was founded in a small factory on the west side of Chicago. With just a handful of employees and a filter mounted onto a service truck, the new company offered a simple but practical service for the local metal finishing shops in the area, who needed to keep their plating baths and rinse tanks clean.

The idea was so effective that, in addition to offering filter and pump services, the new company decided to fabricate and sell filter systems that these local customers could purchase and use, on a permanent basis. Word quickly spread about the Company’s commitments to customer satisfaction and quality, and the firm further expanded its product line by manufacturing additional types of equipment for the metal finishing industry, including environmental testing chambers and ion exchange equipment.

Despite the Depression and World War II, the Company continued to prosper. In 1946, Industrial Filter & Pump Mfg. Co. was incorporated in the State of Illinois, and continues today as a privately owned corporation. Further increases in demand for the Company’s products meant that additional space for manufacturing was needed, and in 1950 it relocated to its current location, a 103,000 square foot facility in suburban Cicero, Illinois.

In the years that followed, Industrial began compounding and vulcanizing rubber for use as a corrosion resistant lining material in the steel pressure filters for which it was famous. Because of the durability of the vulcanized linings, application expertise, and experience in all types of corrosion resistant materials, Industrial’s product line expanded into a variety of different markets, including the chemical, sugar beet, cane, vegetable oil, pharmaceutical, brewery and wine industries. Further product advances in water softeners, activated carbon filters, ceramic filters, etc. resulted in the Company’s successes in still other filter applications, including potable and make-up water applications, and hot gas filtration.

To date, Industrial has furnished literally thousands of filters in a variety of sizes and materials of construction, as well as centrifugal pumps, deionization equipment, inclined plate clarifiers, filter presses, corrosion test chambers, and completely automated process filtration and waste treatment systems throughout the world. With over seven decades of experience to offer, Industrial is considered both a leader and a pioneer in the filtration industry.
